Project Overview

The Greenfield Open Spaces and Playground Restoration Project is transforming our well-loved schoolyard and public park into a safer, greener, and more inclusive space for all. As we know, the school yard is a huge part of our school community—and a resource for everyone in center city outside of school hours.

After 15 years of wear and tear, we’re replacing surfaces, modernizing play equipment, enhancing green areas, and making long-needed repairs that will benefit the community for decades.

What's Happening this Summer?

Between June 15 and August 21, we will complete the main phase of the playground restoration. During this period, the schoolyard will be an active construction site and closed to the public. This work will complete the vast majority of the restoration, including:

  • Improved layout and circulation,
  • Replacement of all soft surfaces,
  • Resurfacing of all asphalt surfaces,
  • New play equipment,
  • Updated seating and
  • Restored painting and sports courts
What's Happening in the Fall?

In the fall, our contractors will return to complete the planting, including new trees, shrubs, and flowering plants to make Greenfield even greener. Both the District and our landscape architects strongly recommended waiting until the cooler fall season for this work.

Help us Cross the Finish Line!

Thanks to your generosity and community partnerships, we’ve raised $853,000 of our $970,000 goal — more than 88% of the way there.

We’re still raising funds for the final pieces of the outdoor spaces restoration: lighting enhancements and Sansom Street beautification. The preparatory work for these future phases, including footings, will be completed as part of this summer’s construction.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Corporate fundraising push: Do you or someone you know work at a company that supports education, community, or sustainability projects?
  • Individual capital campaign supporters: Do you know individuals who would be excited by this project and would contribute to a capital campaign that benefits the city?
  • Spread the word: Share this effort with friends, alumni, and family.  Every donation–$5 or $50,000 moves us closer.

Contributions and sponsorship ideas are welcome — please reach out to greenfieldhsa.fundraising@gmail.com.
